10 Round Magazines A Failure in Logic
(or how Legislators refute science, just like in the middle ages)
Modern firearms are so designed to be rather modular.
Take for example the AR-15. The so called ‘assault weapon’.
The commercially available version only fires every time you pull the trigger. Just like any other firearm. It is no different than the 10/22 made by Ruger in function. It is no different than the Ruger mini-14, the Browning BAR, or the Remington 750. They all fire comparable bullets at varying speeds at the same rate: As fast as you can pull the trigger. The only real difference is that the AR (That is the Armalite platform – AR is short for Armalite) was designed so that if some object in the gun failed, broke, or needed updated or changing it could be done by the owner and not require a gunsmith to make the changes.
This idea, that is creating a modular rifle, changed the way firearms were manufactured. No longer was the entire metal object of the gun formed together in one complex piece to fit nicely in a wood stock, but instead each piece was built around the lower receiver and if it could be attached to it, it could be used. This is why when you buy a AR platform firearm, the serial number and ‘registered’ part of the gun is just the lower receiver. The rest of the gun is ‘accessory’ to the lower receiver. What this means, is that any number of different types of ammunition can be used, simply by changing the other components around the lower receiver.
Most people buy their AR-15 in .223 (or 5.56, they are roughly the same, and for the sake of this article we will call them the same thing). Yet, you can in fact buy AR-15’s in .300, 6.5 Grendel, 6.8, etc.. Without getting too complicated, there is even a different lower receiver called an AR-10 that will allow you add even more calibers of ammunition.
When a completely foolish group of legislators get together and write a law that says you can only use a magazine that can hold 10 rounds, they make a fundamental foolish step away from logical understanding of the tools they are trying to ban. You see, if the gun is modular, and the lower receiver does not change, that means that the ammunition going into the gun must use the magazines that it would for ‘standard’ ammunition, that is the .233 ammunition. If I am forced to buy a 10 round magazine for my .233 and then later I buy a 6.5mm Grendel upper for my gun the 10 round magazine suddenly only holds 7 of the 6.5mm Grendel, because the bullet is so much larger. In order to get back to 10 rounds on my 6.5mm I would have to own a 30 round magazine that I could then pin to hold 10 rounds of the 6.5mm. But then, if I were to put .233 ammunition in that magazine, it would suddenly hold about 18 rounds and would be a clear violation of the law.
This image shows some of the ammo that could be used in an AR platform lower receiver (except the 7.62x51mm, that would not fit) . Notice how much different the diameter of the cases are from one to the other. We're all smart enough here to see if if I put in those different type so ammunition into the same magazine, I would get a different total number of bullets that I could load simply by the varying size.
This means that a 10 round magazine for each caliber would be impossible, being that if some company made a magazine they called the 6.8x43 magazine that held ten rounds, I could buy them and use 5.56x45 (again same as .223) and get more than 10 bullets in the magazine, simply by the available space in the magazine.
You see, the law makers don’t understand the technology. They attempt to limit us to something they know nothing about, by setting up a completely arbitrary number around a completely arbitrary ‘standard’ ammunition round. They have not, and will never, be able to think this through logically, because the technology is so much further advanced then their archaic way of looking at the world.
There in lies the great folly, for these people have failed in the greatest of all things: evolving. They have kept their primitive logic, made up of old ideas about technology, bent on emotionalism and worse of all, the idea that somehow they know better. This whole construct they create only illustrates that they believe they are better equipped, more equal, and frankly, better people than the rest of us. They treat us like children whom they believe are incapable of making logical and intelligent decisions. Then they pass laws like limiting magazine capacity to 10 rounds and some how feel this illogical number is some how a step above ours? Yet, the math, shows they don't know what they are talking about. The science of the manufacturing, the tens of thousands of years of man's struggle against man, all of this shines through the silly emotional stunt of those people that don't even understand that a container that can hold 10 cookies can also hold 300 M&Ms, and think that they can limit both at the same time. You vote for these idiots and idiot laws are what we get.
