Feb 13th, 2013 - Answer to President Obama's SOU
Mr President,
I believe you and I have a severely different understanding of Freedom and the Constitution.
Although I did not waste my time watching the State of the Union - I had individuals to teach how to protect themselves against actual real dangers - I did take a few minutes this morning to review the basic theme of your work.
I found this piece:
Gabby Giffords, deserves a vote. The families of Newtown deserve a vote...
It goes on like that for a bit, I suppose to build capital and make it appear true so that you can remind everyone that "they [the victims] deserve a vote"
Well, that's just silly. Because they already get to participate in suffrage like the rest of us EQUAL and UNIQUE individuals. They went to a ballot box and dropped in a ballot like everyone else and made their decision.
Or perhaps you did not mean the kind of vote that occurs in November. Perhaps you were speaking metaphorically and implying that their suffering should have a weight in the discussion about disarming US Citizens. That is, that it should have an UNEQUAL weight in the discussion and we should take into account these isolated and unique situations and say they have more merit and value than the other sides point of view? (By the way the other sides point of view is the Constitution).
Why would they need a special vote? Are we their parents and we need to tuck them into bed at night and help them sleep? Is this all really about helping grieving people get on with their lives?
Oh wait, we have that already.
It's called the JUSTICE SYSTEM. And these groups of people suffering, hurt, wounded by others, have the right to due-process and protection under the system. (wow, look at that, that pesky Constitution keeps popping up).
They do NOT deserve special privileges just so that they can feel better about their lives. There are 300 million Free United States Citizens. Are you going to help the few sleep and then create insomnia for the millions of others that fear their inalienable rights are being stripped away? That's simply duplicitous and disingenuous.
It is time, we stop trying to give the few privileges, and instead treat EVERYONE EQUAL.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal... EQUAL.
The way we do that is by protecting the Constitution. By ensuring that it is taught and treasured as a way of thinking and reviewing our own lives. For it ensures that my neighbor is free and it is because of his freedom that I too enjoy my own. We are Kings that respect and treasure that border of our lives.
We are not tyrants that use terror and fright and worse, other peoples misery, to get what we want. Such tactics are unbecoming of a Gentlemen and such people that do such things should be publicly shamed if not down right ostracized.
You think the battle is over guns, but it is over the Constitution. If it was simply the little tools that men use then you could probably win, but it is about and idea and even you should know what Medgar Evers said:
You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
